  • Covenants Committee

Port Warwick is designed to be an exceptional mixed use community. As such, a Covenants Committee is required by the Declaration for Port Warwick as a standing committee to regulate the design, signage, appearance, use and Upkeep of the Property. The purpose of the Covenants Committee is to carry out the community's design standards in a fair, consistent, and reasonable manner by uniform review procedures. Such review encourages design excellence and publishes design guidelines to aid property owners when submitting construction, home improvement, or landscaping plans for review.  To submit an application for review on line click here.  To print a copy of the Design Review Application click here.

  • Elections Committee

In accordance with the Articles of Incorporation an Elections Committee is appointed by the Board of Directors prior to each meeting of the Association at which the directors are elected.  The Elections Committee must consist of one director whose term is not then expiring and at least two other persons who are not directors.  The Elections Committee develops and administers such procedures as approved by the Board providing for the election of directors by ballot of the Owners at annual meetings and, where appropriate, special meetings.

  • Lake Enhancement Committee

Lakefront Enhancement Committee

The two ponds in Port Warwick are part of the city storm water control system.  They are technically referred to as BMPs.  BMP (Best Management Practice) is a structural or non-structural device designed to temporarily store or treat urban storm water runoff in order to mitigate flooding, reduce pollution and provide other amenities.
The main goals of the Lakefront Enhancement Committee are:

  • Reduce erosion along the banks to keep the water cleaner (which will help reduce the stuff that clogs the sprinkler system.)
  • Improve the water quality: gives us more wildlife, helps the James River, the Chesapeake Bay and the world.
  • MAKE IT A BEAUTIFUL, NATURAL PLACE THAT WE CAN ALL ENJOY!

In achieving the main goals the committee has two additional goals:

  • Increase the food sources and habitats that attract songbirds.
  • Discourage the Canadian geese from being a nuisance.

Those two goals work together nicely.  Songbirds and geese do not like the same things to eat and geese like to have easy access to walk between the water's edge and their grazing areas (they primarily eat grass).  When the BMPs are ringed with seed bearing flowers, grasses and shrubs, the geese loose their access and will spend their time where the living is more the way they like it.
The Committee will work with the Virginia Cooperative Extension Service, the Master Gardeners Club and the City of Newport News to make this happen.  It will not happen overnight and it will take a lot of work.  John would love to hear from anyone who is interested in becoming involved.

The Committee also intends to be a source of information on gardening and landscaping information and tips specifically for the Virginia Peninsula and Port Warwick including: seed and bulb sources, appropriate plants for our soil, how to water and amend our soil, where to go to get the best information without taking the time to become an expert yourself, and anything else that we can do to help make the Port Warwick landscape the talk of the town.
